In Jonathan Harvey’s affecting Flight Elegy, a bleached violin soars high in the soundscape, whilst the pianist plays inside the instrument much of the time, seeming to evoke distant thunder and gongs. The nine-minute work is mostly unbarred, with its proportional notation adding to the general feeling of melancholy lyricism.
'An utterly becalmed and forlorn violin melody floats high above the pianoʹs enigmatic soundscape.'
